Freddies wrestlers place sixth, advance to district meet

Fredericktown wrestlers delivered a determined effort at the Division III OHSAA Sectional Tournament.

The tournament was held February 28-March 1 at Mechanicsburg High School.

The Freddies finished sixth overall in a 13-team field, scoring 87 points, producing four third-place finishes, one fourth, two fifths, and a sixth.

The third placers included Gabe Selby, who dominated at 150 with multiple pins. Gavin Galbraith impressed at 120, highlighted by a pin in just 1:24 over London’s Austin Caplinge. Owen Garver delivered one of the team’s quickest falls, pinning Millersport’s Matt Douglas in 28 seconds en route to third at 138. Dominic Wolpe capped the team’s effort with a third-place finish at 285, scoring a lightning-fast pin in just 26 seconds against Buckeye Valley’s Dylan Kistler.

Aidan Ebersole earned fourth at 157, highlighted by a fall over Buckeye Valley’s Dylan Finefrock.

At 113 pounds, Clayton Walters fought his way to a fifth-place finish while John Wood added another fifth-place effort at 132.  

Xavier Whitt battled through a tough 144-pound bracket to place sixth, including a pin in 1:09 against Jefferson’s Zane Newman.

District qualifiers from the Mechanicsburg sectional tournament advance to the Southwest District Tournament at Troy Hobart Arena. where the competition intensifies, and only the top four in each weight class will move on to the OHSAA State Championships.
