Fredericktown knocked off Pleasant 68-60 in a non-conference tournament matchup, proving their championship form just days after clinching the Knox Morrow Athletic Conference crown.
The game was played on Feb. 28 at Fredericktown High School, where the Freddies backed up their title with poise and execution.
Fredericktown’s win was powered by sharp shooting and balanced play across the board. The Freddies hit 53 percent from the field and an impressive 55% from three, while also winning the rebounding battle 26-25 and doubling Pleasants’ in assists, 15-8. Though the Spartans held the edge at the free-throw line, Fredericktown’s efficiency from deep proved decisive. The Freddies’ defense chipped in with four steals, and the team’s overall ball movement kept them in control down the stretch to secure the win.
Fredericktown hosts Fairbanks in a Division V playoff showdown, with the OHSAA boys basketball state tournament stakes on the line. The game tips Wednesday, March 4, at 7 p.m. on Fredericktown’s home court.
The last showdown between the Freddies and the Panthers ended in heartbreak, a 45-43 sectional playoff loss on Feb. 27, 2024. That narrow margin still fuels Fredericktown’s drive as the program eyes another postseason run.
